Happy Halloween!

“When witches go riding,

and black cats are seen,

the moon laughs and whispers,

‘tis near Halloween.” – Author Unknown
I love Halloween almost as much as I love Christmas. To be a kid again and experience it anew would be one of my top Christmas presents if possible.

Our lonely little pumpkins🎃
I live in an older neighbourhood where there aren’t many kids around and even less on Halloween night. Adam will buy the candy to “hand out” but ends up eating the rest as only 2 or 3 kids come to the door; and I thought the all year spiderwebs would have added to the decor ;). I work shift work and usually work holidays and special days like this. For the last two years I have had it off, but the years before that, Adam was at home alone on Halloween. *Tear* yes I know. I would text him asking how the night is going and how many kids have come to the door. He would always say about 2-7, somewhere in the low range. Not too bad when we can eat the rest of the candy; no complaining here. But as I found out last year, Adam hadn’t had 2-7 kids, in fact, Adam had had no kids come up to the door. Oh that’s a shame for him you might say, but nay, Adam hadn’t turned on the outside lights (or inside for that matter). That little bugger wanted all the candy to himself. He’s the Grinch of Halloween!

This year I am not working so our tradition is to watch my favourite Halloween movie; Hocus Pocus. I knew Adam and I were meant to be together when we both picked Binx for our cats name. So this year, no change we are going to watch it and we WILL have our lights on for the kids! I have loved the movie ever since I was 5 sitting in my friends basement belting the words to “I Put a Spell on You” at the top of my lungs; thank you Emily Roberts! I love the music, Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, Sarah Jessica Parker, and the tale of Salem witches; who can resist?!

I have to say my list of favourite Halloween movies is more extensive than my favourite Christmas movies. Here’s a list I try to watch every year (in no particular order):

*Note they are mostly kids movies because I don’t want to adult yet lol

  1. Hocus Pocus
  2. Beetlejuice
  3. Rocky Horror Picture Show
  4. Sleepy Hollow
  5. Nightmare Before Christmas
  6. Casper
  7. Ghostbusters 1 & 2
  8. Addams Family
  9. Edward Scissor Hands
  10. Halloweentown
  11. Shining
  12. Halloween Tree

I could only get to 6 (7 tonight) this year so I’ll just have to try harder next year.

Happy Halloween! 🎃 🕸👻
